RUSSIA IN 1927: Russia was in the midst of becoming the Soviet Union (combining Russia, Ukraine, Kazakhstan, Belarus, Armenia and some others). The Soviet Union lasted between 1922 (after the Russian Civil War) to 1991.
Joseph Stalin is in power. Over the next couple of years he orders the spread of “collectivization” which ultimately forces all small businesses and farms to be government owned and operated. He orders the persecution of rich farmers and deports 15 million peasants.  Over the next five years over 6 million people die of famine.
Is your character a peasant? An ex-royal? What motivation would you have to stay? What motivation would you have to leave?
